  • What If?

Zoe’s words: Keun umma (another word for aunt)

Yesterday morning I was at the computer loading my photos that I took over the weekend. I left Zoe in the living room to play in her new playtent while watching an Elmo video. After about 5 minutes I hear the sound of pitter pattering little feet above me. WHAT DA!!??? I went upstairs and I see Zoe in my bedroom!!!! I grab her and bring her downstairs and I yelled at her and she started to cry. I couldn’t really yell at her to the extent that I wanted to since I was also at fault. Man. What if she had fallen down the stairs? That’s a pretty high climb up the hardwood stairs for a toddler. What if she broke her neck? What if? What if? What if? She’s usually sooo good. If she’s looking for me she’ll yell “Ummaya!” up the stairs to make sure I’m not up there. Yesterday, no warning whatsoever. We finally need to buy a gate. I mean she’s a smart cookie and she’s unbelievably obedient but reality is she is still a baby and we gotta think safety first.

After the incident it left an unsettling feeling all day. Seriously, what if?

  • Yeah I hear you!  Safety first for sure….I’m like baby gate central at my place because Nate tries to get into and on top of everything!  Glad to hear that she didn’t get hurt but the thought of what if makes me shudder too

  • I can’t believe you guys made it this far without a gate!!! Justin knows when I leave the gate open and he immediately makes a beeline for the stairs. Get one!!!

  • gosh.. we are so bad.. we haven’t purchased a single gate for our kids.  Even our dog has a gate.. Isn’t that messed up?  Glad to hear nothing happened to lil Z!!! Now go get a gate!!! =P

  • yes, def time for a gate.

  • Whoa.  I can’t believe you made it this long without one!  Babies r us is having a sale on gates.  15% off w/coupon – you can probably find a copy of the coupon online.

  • Hmm.. I have a high flight of stairs too. Tobey was always asking me to carry him down till he was 2.5. Brady though… He’s really good at climbing up and down on his own. The climbing down … more like belly sledding all the way down since its carpeted. Gosh. I fell down a smaller flight of steps when I was 8 yrs old. I didn’t like it one bit. lol. still traumatized. ugh. I feel your pain with the stairs.
