  • Roseola

Have you guys every heard of Roseola or has your child had it?
My gf’s son had it at around 8 months.
He got a fever of 103.5 for 5 days and then he broke out in a rash (non-itchy) on his body and then he was fine. I would freak the eff out if this happened to Zoe. Supposedly it’s very common.

So I was at her son’s 1st birthday this past saturday and our other friend , Alexis, came childless and husbandless. Her son is 8 months old. When we asked her where they were she said that her baby was home with a weird fever and that it’s been a couple of days already. So then it was brought up that it could be Roseola.

Has anyone gone through this yet with their baby?
    roseola

I’m glad I know about this ahead of time just in case it happens to Zoeski.

  • Oh how scary! :( Glad to hear that it’s something none to really serious but scary nonetheless!

  • I’ve heard of it…I think J is going to get it. He’s had a fever since Saturday from 102 degrees to 105.2 at the highest…He’s miserable–not hurting but really hot and weak. He’s just been lying down and sitting in his bear chair watching Pororo all weekend :(   It is supposedly VERY common especially among kids in daycare…Hey how come Zoe NEVER gets sick from daycare??? J was always coming down with something or another from the other lil boogers in his class. Lucky you!

  • @hkcho - dude i do not write about it but she’s got the greenest lookin snots i’ve ever seen….and the longest come to thing of it. i try to wipe her face and she turns away and it’s like this gigantic boogy string from her ear to her kokomong.

she always gets runny noses. other than that no fever or anythign serious so far knock on wood.

  • @PetiteMandoo - Yea…It took J 8 weeks before he stopped coming home with a runny nose every day. He’s only been in daycare for about 12 weeks or so…but in Korea he got a stomach virus, chickenpox and just now the the crazy ass fever. I’m knocking on wood for Zoe too :) J’s a tough lil baby so he’s been pretty good despite the sickness–but I think this high fever is really knocking him out. He wasn’t this bad when he had the stomach virus, croup & laryngitis altogether… :(

  • Chloe is just starting to get better. I am sleep deprived and looking like an unwashed, crazy haired, homeless woman with stains all over my clothes.

Seriously, this is the worst Chloe has ever felt. She had a fever for about 5 days 100-103 ish and Tylenol would only help for an hour or two. Then the fever went right back up. The day before the fever started, she fell off my bed and was all shaken up but was ok…then during her fever, she had an allergic reaction to eggs and broke out in hives so I had to take her to the ER. Then the weird rash started and is still all over body. CRAZY!! It’s been a hard week. If your Z ever gets it msg me and I’ll let you in on how to lessen the misery for the baby and yourself!

  • @hkcho - why what’s he doing? is he just docile or cranky?

  • @ishmejenn - so it’s almost over for you? hahah hang in there. man it sucks being a mommy sometimes. just the extra worry for this lil person who depends on you so much. no more fever though right? they said to give them lots of fluids.

has she ever eaten eggs before?

  • my son had it when he was around 10 months.  the worst part of the roseola was not the rashes, but the high fevers.  it went up to 107!!! and his skin was so hot to the touch.  it was so scary!  we ended up taking him to the children’s hospital because we couldn’t stabilize his fevers.  the rashes came a few days later.  yes, they were nasty (i have pics if you look back to 7/07), but thankfully they didn’t seem to bother him.  unfortch roseola is very common (not just daycare kids…cuz i was sahm mom when hanson got it).  i know tons of kids who have had it too.

  • @PetiteMandoo - Poor thing is literally just lying down or slumping in his bear chair…HE is super cranky & clingy and insists someone sit next to him or hold him. :(

  • @hkcho - poor thing. wow he’s been through hell for his age. he’s a lil warrior. i was surprised the he got the pox!

  • my alissa had it at 14 month…. i freeked cuz she just had a fever out of the blue….
i took her to the doc just incase… he said it could be roseola. that in 2-3 days after high fever she would get a rash.
that is totally what happend… the worse part. me and my hubby were away for the weekend when she had the fever… my mom said it went up to 103.
the rash went away after 3-4 days… the worse part for me.. was the day the roseola went away.. she got the stomach flu and because the poop was so acidic she got a huge butt rash…
that was bad… diahrea non stop and a red butt… but after a lot of butt cream it went away.
it was the worse week of my life.. 2 times at the doc in less than a week.

  • @Dazy214 - omg, i’d cringe if zoe had a really bad diaper rash. she was doing diahrhea so we pt her on soy till it cleared up. that soy milk made her poop so hard that it ripped her butthole. poor thing. we saw 2 cuts.

  • @PetiteMandoo - Yea, finally…almost over. Chloe has been so cranky and probably in pain. It’s so hard bc they can’t talk and can’t describe what is hurting them or how they feel.

I was trying to make her drink a lot of fluids but she wouldn’t drink or eat much of anything for a while. I had to resort to pedialyte pops (well I put pedialyte into an ice tray and then put her pacifers in them to make pacipops), water in her favorite sippy cup, and mook gook (her fav).

She has never had eggs before. I made her a simple korean anchovy based korean gook w/ dooboo and eggs and she totally broke out in hives and her face started swelling up. I was freaking out and took her to the ER.

Ahhh motherhood is so stressfull!! hahaha but i love it.

BTW, Z is too cute for words!

  • Audrey had it when she was a baby… 2 times back to back, which was annoying and a little strange but at least I had seen it before.  :)   I would suggest that you have some Baby Motrin and Baby Tylenol at home just in case you need it at 2 in the morning one day.  Do you have an ear thermometer too?  I have found that Motrin works better than Tylenol but you can use both at the same time if you need to stabilize the baby’s temperature.  Of course you should listen to your doctor before me but that’s what the doctors have told me.  As for bringing down a temperature, you can always use the Grandma method…. pack ice packs around the baby’s back and tummy.  It always seems so extreme to me but hey… it seems to work and it gets Grandma off your back.  (when the baby is sick, everyone has a solution for you)

  • @ishmejenn - awww thanks! keep me updated with chloe.

i thought eggs was one of the foods to hold off on? wasn’t it? omigod i can’t remember. i do remember reading to hold off on berries for a bit. i’m not gonna give zoe mangos. i’m allergic and i got it from my mom.

  • Sara had it back in May:  http://www.xanga.com/a_perfect_miracle/657725253/roseola.html, and yeah I had no idea what the heck it was.  Thank goodness for Google and the internet cuz I was able to figure out what it was by reading up on it.
Then when I went to her ped’s office, I noticed there was a poster along with other common childhood diseases.  This is why I love Xanga too because we can all share and learn from each other’s experiences.

  • @a_perfect_miracle - i know! i feel like i could relate more to mom’s than any informational site that you find online though.
