I went down to my mother’s house in PA for a week with Zoe and got her hair cut down there. It’s cheaper down there. I paid $19. Here it would have been $28. Her father does not like the cut. Hahaha… He goes “She left as Zoe and came back a Joey.” And then proceeds to dance while he sings the song by Joy, “Chinese girls make me wonder. You are my Chinese girl I need you so…” Where’s the love?

My mother used to cut our hair like this and we HATED it! The lady asked me “Do you want to give her bangs?” MuhaHAHAHAHA! “Sure!” I figure do it now before she actually has an opinion about it later. When my mom used to do it we’d start crying after she was done and just sob and say “I look like a Chinese girl!!!!”

It did not go down very well in the beginning. She didn’t want to sit by herself but the woman gave her a lollipop and she was busy licking away. Then all hell broke loose when she turned on the hair dryer.

And they gave us a certificate with a photo and a lock of hair to remember this beautiful moment.

  • The posse looks so nice:)  Wow Mr. Blue really did get a make over!!!  Mr. Pink too.  I really like the new tail on Mr. Blue.  Zoe doesn’t look so happy when she got her hair cut…

That’s really cute they made the certificate and saved that little lock of hair too…  :)   Glad you got to spend time with your mom!

  • hahahahaha  that postcard is a keeper!  She’s so cute!

  • you could’ve totally put a pot on her head and done it yourself. rockin’ it old school style like your korean ancestors before you haha.

  • aw that postcard is adorable!!!!!!! that’s so thoughtful!!!

  • I was going to say–what’s the difference for Mr. Pink & Blue…I like the new tail! kekek I like zoe’s haircut!

  • @hkcho - they got restuffed!

  • hehe I cut M’s bangs before, but never touched the rest of her hair because I’m living vicariously through her already. I didn’t have hair until I was 2. So it’s still her baby hair. For her bangs I messed up the first time so I looked it up online. My mom used to cut our hair too, and in some photos, my bangs were so crooked. Seriously…one eyebrow was covered and not the other… Anyhow, the posse looks fantastic. I like how they gave you the little lock of hair.

  • zoe looks adorable with the bangs. and she looks cute when she’s crying.

  • @PetiteMandoo - Were they normally so skinny/flat? Or did Zoe wear them down :)

  • thanks again for sharing your font with me! and i would be your babysitter or craft slave for a day. if only you lived closer…. :)

  • not only are you an awesome mom but not even a toy fixer? wow wow wow! :)

  • lol that’s an awesome first haircut picture. definitely teenager embarrassment worthy.

  • love her bangs and love the memorabilia! that’s so cool!

  • oh man i love her crying pic on the certificate…good times!

  • that’s cute! hey! there is nothing wrong with looking chinese! hahahaha although i hated the bowl cuts my mom gave me when i was little. i would cry everytime my mom gave me a haircut!

  • @hkcho - god….i don’t remember because it’s been forever since she’s had them now. but i’ve noticed they’re limpness for a while now. plus the music box inside of them stopped working after i washed them so i wanted to take them out.

  • I think we all had a similar haircut at one point in our lives.  I didn’t like it one bit but I can see why my mom made us get those haircuts.  I think it looks so cute… if you’re a kid that is.

  • Hey, what’s wrong with Chinese girls?! ;)

  • lol – LOVE the picture on the certificate! :)

  • hahahah that first haircut picture definitely needs to be saved to show Zoe later when she’s older!! =)

Hey, teach me how to makeover Mr. Blue!  Jacob has one too but the music thingy inside broke! So the tail is all limp now =(   I’m thinking about taking it out so that I can wash it.  What did you do?

  • hehe….love the makeovers on everyone!  I’m probably totally going to give my daughter the old school bangs at one point too.  Like you said, she can’t complain right?

  • awww that postcard is so cute. and i love the raspberry pic. it’s so sweet!

  • @cheendy - so for mr blue’s make over you’ll need:
-poly-fil (you can get this at ac moore / michael’s. and don’t get the one for quilting)
    -blue thread
    -scissors
    -seam ripper

open up the spine with the seam ripper.
    cut out the music box
    stuff it with the poly-fil
    sew it back up

for the tail I just cut off the two ties on the top of the elephant’s head (no purpose for it since i don’t hang him on her crib) and i open it up with the seam ripper and ironed it flat. then i cut it to make a tassel and then rolled it up and stitched it together and then i sewed that on to the end of the tail.

  • *sigh* so good you can actually sew. I assumed when I first read the post that you took it to a toy doctor to get them re-stuffed and the tail done – that’s what I would’ve done!

  • I have to ask – where did you buy Mr. Pink and Mr. Blue?  I want to buy one for my friend’s baby!

  • @lastardust - mr pink was given to us by a friend. we bought mr blue at target.

  • hubby didn’t like Marian’s bangs either at first.  but now he loves them on her!!  now that her hair’s growing out, sometimes she looks like she has a “bowl cut”; she’s due for a 2nd haircut soon.  geez the maintenance these little girls need!

  • @PetiteMandoo - I had no idea that those ties on top of the elephant’s head were there to hang on the crib! Gavin has chewed and sucked on those things since day one. Needless to say, the ties are now gross and I’ve been debating getting rid of them. I don’t know that I can salvage enough of them to make into a cute new tail, though. Bummer!

By the way, do you know where you can buy these things? Our blue one is my son’s “lovey” and it’s gotten to the point where if I don’t have an extra (for emergencies) I could be left in a pretty tragic situation with an irate child. Ha!

  • @brentsgirl06 - omigosh. you asked the right person. we had mr pink but we left him at my gf’s place so we needed a backup and bought mr blue at target!

  • i LOVE z’s new haircut~ she looks like a little doll. so pretty!

  • LOL, youre a mom, cook, decorator, and now a plastic surgeon. I like Mr Blue’s tummy tuck, ear lift and tail augmentation. LOL…

  • wow! i love mr blue and mr pink’s makeover! and the certificate with photo and a lock of hair is so special!

  • oh!!! soo~ cute!!!
