Help Please!
Hi everyone. This entry is non Zoe related. It’s actually a lil bit church related. Ok and for those of you who are rolling your eyes and groaning shut up. I love my church. Everyone there is very warm and very accepting of who you are and just welcomes you with open arms. It’s also been good for me. I can’t even remember the last time I’ve been to church before I found this one and just becoming a mother has pushed me to go back. Even C’s been coming once a month and he N E V E R goes to church, E V E R. The pastor is my age and his sermons are really good. Plus he’s sarcastic and funny. One sunday after one of his sermon’s I go “That was a good sermon. You were really funny.” He replies “What are you talking about? I’m always funny.” *scoff* Whatevs!!! In the winter I scratched my car up against the church and I said “Pastor Rich! I scratched my car up on the side of the church!” He goes “OH NO! Is the church ok?”
Oh. Hardy. Har. Har.
Anywho I”m writing about a girl who goes to my church. Her name is Christine. She just finished nursing school and is looking for a job. However she is not a U.S. citizen and does not have a green card. She’s applied for one and is still waiting. She has a work permit till July 2010. HOWEVER she needs to get a job by October 13th or else she’ll need to go back to Korea. So she will need someone to sponsor her. If anyone can help her out or if you work or are affiliated with a hospital or know of any nurse positions that are open and can help her out I’d really appreciate it. I will even make a Hello Kitty bag for the person who gets her a job. Please pray for her.

The church can sponsor her…lots of churches do that….Maybe some of the elders and the pastor can set a meeting maybe giving her a full time job…..does the church know her situation? not to many people will sponor on last notice…..BUT CHURCHES CAN………..i hope all things work out and please keep me posted..
@babymomof2 - i think it has to be a nurse job though.
@PetiteMandoo - hmmmm, prayers will be said…maybe someone at the church has his or her own clinic or works at one, who may be able to sponsor…..again, thats pretty last notice..the sure bet for her to stay a little longer would be church..they could say, she is the secretary or whatever position she is needed……MY CHURCH SPONOSORED A LOT OF PEOPLE BEFORE …keep me posted…maybe getting an extension to give her more time is possible…
I worked in a nursing home. Maybe she can look up some in NJ… or even NY where they need Korean speaking nurses at the homes? I worked at the one on Union Street Flushing. I think it was Union Plaza Nursing home? Tons of Koreans there. Tell her to ask for Charlton Rhee… mention my name, Kathy Choi. He’ll remember. ^-^
a quick fix she may try, if she hasn’t already, is a registry. They can put her in touch with facilities looking for nurses in a short time. Also, many agencies are able to find work for RNs from out of the country. I know here in CA where I work as a RN I have many co-workers from the Phillippines that have come over that way. Good Luck!
Does she want to do actual nursing work or would a related job in the pharmaceutical world be ok?
Btw where do u go to church, I’m looking for one close to home…
@injeannieous - i think it has to be a nursing position.
it’s called bethany well in fort lee on main street. come!
Christine first needs H-1B sponsorship, not green card sponsorship .. she has a family based green card petition pending. She has until next year to file for her H-1B, but it’s a catch 22 situation. Hospitals don’t want to hire someone if they can only work for less than a year and won’t sponsor. Nursing agencies will sponsor but want experience. She can’t get the experience because she’s not allowed to work beyond July 2010, but won’t sponsor her to continue to allow to work and nursing agencies are willing to sponsor but only if she has experience.
I dunno why, but I thought you were trying to find her a husband
I’ll keep her in my prayers, one of my small group dongsengs just finished nursing school too and she said it’s been hard trying to find a job…
it’s a tough time to be graduating…
not sure how much advice i could give, but sounds like she should just send out her resume to every hospital in the area… perhaps she can concentrate on the major hospitals, as some of them are more likely to welcome in new grads and even have special programs for them (e.g. NYU Medical Center has a 1-year nurse residency program for new nurses). another route like someone mentioned are nursing homes… now, while i think they aren’t the best places to work at all, especially for one’s first job, they often need help. if push comes to shove, she might want to also consider even just getting a nurse aid or nurse assistant job first if it’s difficult to get an RN one. there’s also Visiting Nurse Service (VNS)… they have walk-in interview days.
do you know if she passed her NCLEX? does she have a BSN? or AA degree? she can apply to my hospital

i’m not sure what exactly my hospital’s policy is regarding green card sponsorship. if she’s interested in being a NICU RN, has her BSN, and passed her NCLEX. you can send me her resume. and i’ll pass it on to my nurse manager.
i’ve heard kessler rehab sponsering nurses to work there. another place she may look into is the buckingham in norwood. they have a korean nursing home unit. not sure if they’re actively looking right now. i have one of our liaison asking around when she goes to some of her facilities.
what degree does she have AA or BSN? NCLEX, passed? i assume she speaks english well.
she should definitely apply to hospitals, but have to say I’ve haven’t heard of hospitals hiring and having to sponser that person. as a new grad, she should try to get her foot into the hospital, but even in this industry, they’re cutting back and looking for ppl with experience. hope it works out for her..
@pc1004rn - she passed her nclex in july. and is fluent in english
